Reading Across Rhode Island Kick-Off Event

Screening of the documentary Google and the World Brain followed by a discussion led by RISD Professor Benjamin Shaykin.
$20 (includes a copy of the book, retail value $15)

Parking:
Discounted parking will be available at DownCity Parking, 1 Fulton Street Lot 601, for $5.00. Just tell the attendant you are with the Reading Across Rhode Island Program.

3D Printing With AS220

AS220 Industries will be hosting a workshop on 3D printing. Participants will learn about 3D printing and participate in live printing demonstrations inspired by Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore.

At age 17 Brittany Wenger won the 2012 Google Science Fair’s Grand Prize for teaching a software network, or an “artificial brain,” to detect breast cancer through a minimally invasive procedure that could be more reliable than the current biopsy procedure. In 2013 Wenger was chosen as one of Time Magazine’s 30 People Under 30 Changing the World.

Living Literature has created a 45 minute, three person, readers theater presentation that focuses on the first third of this novel; introducing the audience to the main characters and ideas of Robin Sloan’s fantasy/adventure exploration of the modern conflict and transition between new technology (electronic) and old (printed books). It is intended for both those who have and have not read the book. If you want to find the solution to the book’s mystery, you’ll have to read the whole book, but this program will get you engaged the in the people and challenges of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore.
