2025 Page Turner Award Recipient Ed Garcia

Rhode Island Center for the Book is thrilled to celebrate Ed Garcia, Director of the Cranston Public Library, as the recipient of this year’s Page Turner Award!

Established in 2023, the Page Turner Award honors a librarian or educator who embodies the Center’s mission and inspires a love of reading throughout Rhode Island.

This year’s honoree was an easy choice.

“Ed was the only person we considered for this year’s award,” said Kate Lentz, Director of Rhode Island Center for the Book. “His leadership and unwavering commitment to the Freedom to Read have been truly exceptional.”

Under Ed’s direction, Cranston Public Library has become a model for what a modern public library can be—open, inclusive, and deeply connected to its community. From championing intellectual freedom to fostering curiosity and creativity, Ed’s work reflects everything we believe in at Rhode Island Center for the Book.

“Libraries are the pillars of our democracy,” said Garcia. “They are places where everyone can freely explore ideas and stories that shape who we are. I share this recognition with all my colleagues who work every day to protect the freedom to read and foster a love of books in our community.”
