READING ACROSS RHODE ISLAND COMES TO
THE CUMBERLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY!
Thursday, April 4 at 7:00 pm
CUMBERLAND, RI – Cumberland Public Library is excited to join Reading Across Rhode Island for a celebration of the art and culture of Vietnam! Tom Morrissey will join us on Thursday, April 4 at 7pm to share his unique perspective on Reading Across Rhode Island’s featured novel, The Beauty of Humanity Movement by Camilla Gibb.
Mr. Morrissey served in the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot and has visited the country several times since. Upon his return from the war, he went on to pursue several advanced art degrees, receive several international artist awards and has served as a Fulbright lecturer. Vietnam has continued to play an important role throughout his career including a book of his photographs Memorial Between the Lines: Photographs from the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial published in 2000.
Cumberland Library’s Melissa Chiavaroli shares, “Mr. Morrissey is a wonderful person to talk about the country of Vietnam’s art and culture because he has experienced it firsthand over the course of 40 years. His genuine understanding and respect for the people of Vietnam and their history is a wonderful addition to this year’s Reading Across Rhode Island program. Many people never even made it to the Vietnam War in history class. Tom will not only bring photos and stories of the culture to us this evening, he will be bringing to life an important part of our recent history.”
You will not want to miss this wonderful Reading Across Rhode Island program! This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
Reading Across Rhode Island is an annual One Community/One Book program of the Rhode Island Center for the Book at Rhode Island Council for the Humanities.
